MAScores.com began more than a decade ago, starting out as a single spreadsheet to keep track of scores and standings for Cape Ann League varsity baseball. Owner and developer Chris Lamothe, coaching baseball at Manchester-Essex, created the spreadsheet to aid in reporting standings to the major Boston newspapers. Within a short time, similar spreadsheets for other sports were created and CALScores.com (Cape Ann League Scores) was born.
Eventually, the site moved from linked spreadsheets to a database driven model, simplifying the inputting and displaying of scores, standings, and all of the other information you will find on the site. Starting with the CAL in the fall of 2014, the athletic departments assumed control of their schedules, using a custom built administration panel to enter and maintain the schedules. In the spring of 2016, the Commonwealth Athletic Conference joined the MAScores.com family.
Owner Chris Lamothe
Chris played his high school athletics at Newburyport in the Cape Ann League before moving on to play baseball at Tufts University. Upon graduation, he acquired a Masters in Education and began his teaching and coaching career. Going back to his roots, Chris was an assistant coach at Amesbury High School for two years before reuiniting with his old coach at NHS, Bill Pettingell. After a few years as the Clippers' assistant, Chris became the varsity baseball coach at Manchester-Essex.
It was in his position as the head coach at M-E that the idea that would become MAScores.com was born. A self-taught "web guy", he put together CALScores.com and ran it as a labor of love for many years. After a 20-year teaching career, Chris moved on to pursue his newest passion, earning a certificate in web development. This new knowledge allowed him to move on from Excel spreadsheets and take advantage of the power and flexibility of databases, creating the ability to handle multiple leagues and bringing about the evolution of MAScores.
